For anyone who is stressing out about a comprehensive exam, a job interview, the economy, or how many boxes of haagen-dazs ice cream bars to buy at the supermarket when they go on sale for $1, here is some great advice from Making Pennies life contributrice Shobs. She scoured the most recent issue of Cosmo, and sent me this message:

While getting my pedicure today and reading about Dianna Agron in Cosmo (ps. you should check out the cover because she is hottt), I stumbled upon one of Cosmo's unsubstantiated, ridiculous life tips that validates the reason I read this publication.

If you want to stop overthinking something, wash your hands. 

That's it. So, if you're stressing about this problem you can't solve or your public speaking skillz, just go wash your hands. Don't overthink. It's cool.

PhD in a single question.

Yesterday at curling, a national (curling) champion asked me this simple question:, "How is school?" Noting my apparent dismay (which was actually due to my inability to converse with a normal human being), he followed up with, "Wait. Let me change that. How is your soul-crushing research experience?" In addition to being a top-rate curler, he also happens to have a PhD in mathematics.

I laughed and gave him a sheepish look as he walked--and then slid-- away. Actually, grad school is great at the mo'. I don't know if I will say the same in a few years when I'll wish I had worked harder right now, but... it's probably good to chill out for a few days... months... quarters?

Silly bandz are the coolest

When I was home, my sister introduced me to the silly band. For those of you who are clueless like I was, these bands are all the rage among the youngsters. You know, pog style.

My sister had sweet DINOSAUR silly bandz. I decided I needed some, too. I endeavored to search every CVS and Duane Reade (pronounced dwan-A reed-A) in a 7 mile venture on the island of Manhattan. My search proved unfruitful (except for ripoff versions in Chinatown).

Instead I settled for 'shaped rubber bands' that I found at a ShopRite supermarket in New Jersey.

Their schtick: They look like colorful rubber bands on your arm.

But... when you take them off, they are AWESOME SHAPES.

I seriously think these things are super sweet. What is wrong with me? Am I turning 7 this weekend? I think not.

TV Commercial Fail.

If you watched ANTM last night (which I hope you did, my fave two are in the final two!), you prolly saw this hella shitty commercial. The maker of it probably said to himself, I have an idea, why don't we repeat portions of one audio clip NINE TIMES in a thirty second commercial?



I will NOT be watching this shit. If anyone does, let me know if they say, "I have an idea, why don't we have a seance" as many times as they are advertising.

The Exacto Eraser

My eraser is going on 10 this academic year.

After finishing my first assignment at my new school, I just wanted to take some time to reflect upon my eraser. I've never given it the respect it deserves.

I've had the red beaut for a long time (proof: my middle school catchphrase "How-do?" is written on its base). People think I'm gangsta because it looks like a knife. Its sliding mechanism provides endless enjoyment in sub-exciting classes. It makes mistakes disappear.

I haven't lost it all these years.
